Sello CALCULO -MITECO

AR Shelving obtains the MITECO “CALCULO” seal and strengthens its commitment to decarbonisation

AR Shelving has obtained the CALCULO seal from the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) at its Galdakao plant (Bizkaia). This official recognition certifies the rigorous measurement of the company’s carbon footprint and its commitment to sustainability and climate transparency. The seal covers the years 2022, 2023 and 2024 and has been granted by the Spanish Office for Climate Change (OECC).

This recognition represents a further tangible and verifiable step in the decarbonisation roadmap promoted by the Grupo Arania, positioning AR Shelving as one of the driving companies within the Group’s climate strategy.

A real, measurable and verifiable commitment

The CALCULO seal certifies that AR Shelving rigorously measures and reports its greenhouse gas emissions, following internationally recognised methodologies such as the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064-1, with third-party external verification.

Although the registry requires, at a minimum, the calculation of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, AR Shelving has gone further by also working on Scope 3, which accounts for the largest share of emissions. While not mandatory, this calculation represents an additional commitment beyond regulatory requirements.

Furthermore, the company has calculated its carbon footprint across three consecutive years and across all three scopes, reinforcing its high level of commitment, anticipating regulatory requirements and establishing a solid baseline for future emissions reductions.

Alignment with the Grupo Arania’s strategy

Obtaining the CALCULO seal is fully aligned with the Grupo Arania’s Decarbonisation Plan, as it enables:

  • The establishment of a common baseline for emissions measurement.
  • Data-driven decision-making.
  • Enhanced climate transparency, increasingly demanded by clients, investors and regulators.

The Group is working towards a harmonised approach across its companies, sharing criteria, learnings and best practices in sustainability.

Next steps: towards reduction and compensation

The MITECO registry follows a clear progression: CALCULO → REDUZCO → COMPENSO.

Following this milestone, AR Shelving’s next objective is to progress towards the REDUZCO seal, which certifies real and verified emissions reductions and requires at least four consecutive years of data. To achieve this, the company will focus on obtaining the seal based on its 2025 measurement, thereby completing four consecutive years of calculation.

This path will allow AR Shelving to continue advancing towards a more efficient, low-carbon industrial model, while offering customers lower-impact products and creating value across the entire value chain.
